You Know What Would Be Really Handy?

If someone, somewhere, had put together a fairly comprehensive list of 13 essential social media listening tools and then written an article about their proper place and use in the social media ecosytem.

That would be very handy, indeed.

To start with … looks like I’m the first – social media listening tool – to notice your request (and yes it’s about time).

Here is a post from a Nathan Gilliatt (analyst) on the topic: http://net-savvy.com/executive/social-media-analysis/social-media-analysis-for-workgroups.html

We (ecairn) propose a solution that starts with the identification of communities and influencers.

It’s not a one click affair (like most of the solutions you’ll see in this report) but enable agencies and brand to get qualitative value out of their listening effort.

To illustrate:

It’s one thing to tell Microsoft that their footprint in social media is 4% positive, 95% neutral and 1% negative ( typical result) and it’s another one to figure out that the Vista introduction has

- positive mentions in the “mobility” and the “soa/Virtualization” community
- negative ones in the “computing security” one

along with key conversations and identification of the key influencers MS should be talking to.

Best
Best.
